Amazing turnout on a gorgeous Saturday morning! Over a hundred volunteers showed up to help at the Richman School District Clinic in Fullerton, CA on January 28, 2012. With so many volunteers, it was difficult to have stations for all of them, but everyone was so flexible and ready to do whatever was needed. We actually had a few “floaters,” those who did not have specific assignments but floated around to wherever help was needed, and that helped tremendously with the flow of the clinic. We easily were able to screen and treat over 70 patients that day, including both students and their parents!
I think my favorite moment of the clinic was when a “regular” came to the clinic. In her mid-eighties, she has continually counted on our clinics for her regular dental appointments. She even brings her own paperwork typed up on a typewriter each time. After her treatment, she purposely made her way around the clinic thanking everyone and to make sure she showed her gratitude before leaving.
We also had several dental hygiene students and staff volunteer at this clinic and they were a big help in teaching all our patients oral hygiene and helping out with the prophy’s.
As always the clinic was a great learning experience for all who volunteered but this one was especially for the class of 2014. As they are finishing up their pre-clinical studies, they were given more responsibilities at the clinic to gain invaluable experience.
I am happy to say it was another great clinic for Ayuda and could not have been more appreciative to everyone who made it possible.
